Aldi is a fan favorite grocery store in the United States, where consumers flock to find better quality food for lower prices. Besides this, there are many things you can find at the supermarket chain that you didn’t know even existed, most notably, the mountainous variety of snacks and the treasure trove of Aldi Finds.
However, we’re not just talking about the hidden gems on the shelves. Previously, one Aldi shopper noticed a live stowaway frog in a lettuce container. Now, one woman allegedly unearthed something deceased.
Cemetery At Aldi, Anyone?
Popular Dallas-based TikTok creator Maggie McGaugh (@maggiemcgaugh) stands in front of her car in the Aldi parking lot mid-grocery unload.
“People always think I‘m making these stories up. I am at Aldi,” she says, pointing to the store behind her. “Grabbed one of these boxes to put things in.”
When she opens the yellow cardboard box in her shopping cart, she fishes out a plastic bag. At first glance, it’s random, but nothing completely strange. Then, the content creator zooms in on the metal pendant that has ‘Abba Cremation’ engraved and a zip tie sealing the bag shut.
But the worst part? It appears empty.
“I’m not even joking. Someone has their cremation in the box,” she says.
After taking a deep breath, she manages to utter, “What?”
How is McGaugh coping with the discovery? By cracking a pun in the caption, “People are dying to shop at Aldi I guess.”

McGaugh’s clip garnered over 127,000 views, but not without the dark jokes.
“Their happiest memories were at aldi,” one viewer quipped
“They wanted to go shopping too,” a second jested.
“Can I get a price check on Grandpa Bob? Oh its 90 percent off sale,” a third cracked.
“It was mom’s final wish. Sorry I forgot the bag,” a fourth joked
On a serious note, some theorized about the type of remains was inside.
“Probably a pet. That’s how my babies’ ashes looked whenever I got them back,” one commenter proposed.
“That’s not very much ash. Probably a pet,” another echoed.
What Is Abba Cremation?
Animal remains seem to be incorrect. A Google search revealed that Abba Cremation and Mortuary is a funeral home based in Quinlan, Texas, that only offers funerals and cremations for people. In order to have furry friends cremated, pet parents need to visit a crematory specifically for pets.
Could You Legally Scatter Ashes At Aldi?
Every state has its own laws and regulations, which include scattering a person’s remains. People can do this wherever they want in Texas. Anywhere they desire it, as long as it’s in a public space. On private land, a person must obtain a handwritten consent from the property owner.
“A person may scatter cremated remains over uninhabited public land, over a public waterway or sea, or on the private property of a consenting owner. Unless the container is biodegradable, the cremated remains must be removed from the container before being scattered,” per Texas Health and Safety Code.
So, if someone wanted to perform a scattering ceremony at an Aldi in the Lone Star State, a manager or the owner would have to grant them permission.
