Former US Open champion Graeme McDowell will play in the Major for the first time since 2020 after making it through 36 holes of final qualifying at Dallas Athletic Club.
The LIV Golfer, who won the event in 2010, was one of nine to qualify for the Shinnecock Hills tournament after finishing tied for fifth on four under after two rounds of 69.
When McDowell last played in the tournament, it marked the final year of his exemption following his victory a decade earlier.
He missed the cut the last time he played in the Major, when it was held at Winged Foot, but his long wait to make amends for that performance will finally come to an end next month.
McDowell, who also finished T2 at the 2012 US Open, will be joined by two other LIV Golfers who qualified in Dallas.
For Peter Uihlein, the wait for a US Open return has been even longer than McDowell’s, with his most recent appearance coming in 2018.
However, he earned his place in style after finishing top of the leaderboard on nine under.
Legion XIII player Caleb Surratt will also appear, having emerged from a 6-for-1 playoff to ensure safe passage to his maiden Major appearance.
A slump in form meant that, for the first time, PGA Tour winner Tom Kim needed final qualifying to ensure his fifth US Open appearance. The South Korean, who placed T8 in 2023, finished second on eight under to take his place in the field.
Korn Ferry Tour player Cooper Dossey finished third to secure his maiden Major appearance, while in fourth, another Major debutant will be Manav Shah, who spent the last two seasons on the Asian Tour.
That left three more automatic qualifiers, each of whom finished T4 alongside McDowell. PGA Tour pros Adrien Dumont de Chassart and Jimmy Stanger were two, along with former Boise State University player T.K. Kim, who birdied the last to avoid the playoff.
While there was joy for the nine who qualified, for other notable names, there was the disappointment of missing out.
Until 2025, Sergio Garcia had played in 25 consecutive US Opens. He narrowly missed out in final qualifying a year ago, and he fell short again, finishing one under after 36 holes, two below the cut line.
While that was agonizing enough, it was even worse for the five Surratt beat in a playoff – Henrik Norlander, Kevin Streelman, Eugenio Chacarra, Cooper Musselman and Chandler Phillips.
Other notable names to narrowly miss out included LIV Golfer Jose Luis Ballester, who fell one short of the cut line. Also finishing on two under were PGA Tour pros Eric Cole and Mackenzie Hughes.
Falling two below the cut line were PGA Tour stars Peter Malnati and Joel Dahmen, along with LIV Golfers Scott Vincent, Abraham Ancer and Branden Grace. Sam Bennett, who was the 2023 Masters low amateur, also finished on one under for his two rounds.
Further down the leaderboard were notable names including two-time PGA Tour winner Nick Dunlap, Doug Ghim, who led at the halfway stage, and Charley Hoffman.
More LIV Golfers, including Sebastian Munoz, Michael Le Sasso and Harold Varner III, also didn't do enough to qualify.

WELCOME
Hello and welcome to Golf Monthly's coverage of the Dallas US Open Final Qualifier. Stay tuned to see which players will book their spot in next month's Major at Shinnecock Hills.
A BIG DAY IN DALLAS...
It's not quite Golf's Longest Day just yet - that falls on June 8th, when 10 sites across the US and Canada will hosts hundreds of pros and amateurs dreaming of a US Open place.
But today is when US Open final qualifying began. Walton Heath in England hosts one of the 36-hole contests, with the other coming from Dallas Athletic Club's Blue and Gold Courses.
That's the action I'll be focusing on here, so settle in and let's see which nine from the more than 100 players can reach Shinnecock Hills.
WITHDRAWALS
The first group was off at 7am local time, but there's plenty of golf ahead, with 36 holes to get through and most yet to complete their first round.
Having said that, some players didn't make their tee time, with LIV Golfer Tom McKibbin, 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett, PGA Tour pro Ryan Moore and the Korn Ferry Tour's Parker Coody all missing out.
TIED AT THE TOP
It's early days, but there are already some notable names towards the top of the leaderboard.
PGA Tour pro Frankie Capan III is T1 after 15 of his opening round alongside three-time winner on the circuit Tom Kim. This is the first time Kim has had to go through final qualifying, owing to a slump in form in recent months.
His best finish at the US Open was a T8 in 2023...
LIV GOLFERS IN THE FIELD
Considering their limited pathways to the US Open, it's no surprise to see a good chunk of the LIV Golf roster teeing it up in Dallas.
Peter Uihlein is currently the highest-placed of them, in T5, but the likes of Sebastian Munoz, Jose Luis Ballester, Scott Vincent and Branden Grace are all involved too.
Perhaps the biggest names for the field are 2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell and Sergio Garcia. Both McDowell and Garcia are -1 at the moment, with -4 the score that currently gets you to T9 and at least a playoff.
TOM KIM ON THE WAY BACK?
Are we beginning to see a return to the kind of form that saw Tom Kim win three times early in his PGA Tour career?
He's since dropped out of the world's top 100, but he placed T6 at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic a week or so ago, and he's currently the solo leader in Dallas on -7.
It's early days after just 12 of 36 holes, but the signs are good so far for the South Korean.

RELIEF FOR DAVID PUIG
One player who had been in the field for today's marathon session in Texas is LIV Golf's David Puig.
That would have meant getting from Philadelphia, where he played in the PGA Championship, to Dallas for an early tee time on Monday morning.
How to avoid it? A good PGA Championship finish to get inside the world's top 60 and book his US Open slot. He placed T18 at Aronimink to reach 58th in the rankings and save an overnight dash south.
THREE TIED FOR THE LEAD
We now have three sharing the lead in Dallas, with Tom Kim joined by fellow PGA Tour pros Hayden Springer and Doug Ghim.
GHIM HALFWAY HOME AT -7
Now Doug Ghim's out in front on his own. He's just finished a -7 first round on the Blue Course.
Ghim has two US Open appearances under his belt, missing the cut in both. He's halfway to his next go at it.
OVER AT WALTON HEATH...
It's not just the action unfolding at Dallas Athletic Club today. There's also a final qualifier at Walton Heath in England.
There are seven qualifying places available there, and it was won by Nathan Kimsey.
Matthew Jordan, Angel Hidalgo, Nicklas Nørgaard, Rocco Repetto Taylor and Fillipo Celli have also qualified.
A 4-for-1 playoff will determine the final spot.
Update: It's won by Ugo Coussaud.
FINAL QUALIFIER NEXT MONDAY...
Before Golf's Longest Day on June 8th, there's another final qualifier to keep an eye on. That comes a week today at Hino Golf Club in Japan.
QUICK TURNAROUND FOR THE LEADER
Leader Doug Ghim barely has time for a cup of tea before he heads out again. He's due to begin his second 18 at 1.33pm local time (about 10 minutes from now).
ALL TO PLAY FOR IN DALLAS!
Aside from a few, the first 18 is basically done and dusted in Dallas. So, do we have a better idea of which nine are heading to the US Open? Not really. There are 42 players within seven of the lead, and within five of where they need to get to, so all to play for as we continue.
GARCIA IN TROUBLE
One big name who absolutely needs to pick up his game in the second 18 is Sergio Garcia.
He's +1 after the first 18, six adrift of what he'd currently need to make a minimum of a playoff. It was all going well enough for him, until a run of three consecutive bogeys ruined his scorecard.
NOTABLE NAMES NEEDING TO PUSH ON...
It's not just Garcia with work ahead of him over the second 18. 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Individual Champion Gordon Sargent is +4, Harold Varner III is +2 and another LIV Golfer, Cameron Tringale is +1.
Another LIV Golfer, Abraham Ancer, is on the same score, along with PGA Tour pro Cameron Champ.
FAIR PLAY, JACK!
Fair play to amateur Jack Hollingsed. He was propping up the leaderboard after the first round on +14, but he's refusing to throw in the towel, making his tee time for the second 18 and birdieing the first.
ALL PRESENT AND CORRECT... SO FAR
Some players often opt to call it a day if they're out of contention after the first 18, but so far, the 119 who finished the first round are still in the field as they head out again.
NEW LEADER
We have a new solo leader, with LIV Golf's Peter Uihlein moving to -8. And what a start he's made to his second 18, with three birdies in the first seven.
Uihlein has three US Open stars, with T48 in 2018 his best performance.
GRAEME MCDOWELL WATCH
2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell is still in the mix. He's -2 with 14 holes to play. Currently, -5 would see him into at least a playoff so all is not lost.

TWO-SHOT LEAD FOR PETER UIHLEIN
Peter Uihlein now leads by two on -8, with three in T2, including arguably the biggest player in the top 10 of the leaderboard, Tom Kim.
He's had a steady start to his second round with a couple of pars.
DUNLAP ON THE MOVE
One player making a serious move is Nick Dunlap. His first round of 70 didn't really do him that many favors, but he's -3 in his second round and just two away from forcing his way into the reckoning.
DOUG GHIM HITS THE SKIDS
Doug Ghim led after the first 18, but it's started going sideways for him since he went back out.
On the Gold Course, he is currently +3 after just four holes. Still plenty of time to pull it round, but he needs to arrest the slide.
He's four back of leader Peter Uihlein.
SERGIO MAKES A CHARGE
We're not quite at the stage where we can say Sergio Garcia is leaving it late, but he was in some trouble after the first 18 at +1.
His second 18 has started well though, with Garcia -3 after seven to move within two of what would be a playoff at this stage.
MUNOZ WELL SET
Peter Uihlein remains in the leader, but another LIV Golfer giving himself a great chance is Sebastian Munoz.
He's currently T5th, one of seven in that position. He's played in the US Open five times, with a best finish of T49 at Los Angeles Country Club in 2023.
BIG ASK FOR TOM HOGE
Is fatigue starting to kick in for Tom Hoge? He finished T26 at the PGA Championship. Within 24 hours, he was in Dallas trying to qualify for the US Open.
It was going well enough after the first round, when he was -4 and knocking on the door of the top nine needed to qualify.
However, he's +3 in the second round and needs to find something to get back on track.
DUNLAP IN CONTENTION
If the final qualifier was to conclude right now, Nick Dunlap would be in a playoff. He's -4 so far after 10 holes of his second round and at -3 overall.
That leaves the two-time PGA Tour winner one of 12 in T9. We don't need to worry about a 12-for-1 playoff just yet, although that would be interesting, to say the least.
WITHDRAWALS...
We've had a few more withdrawals, with some likely feeling it's futile continuing with so much ground to make up. One is Gordon Sargent, who was +4 after the first 18. Another is Cameron Champ, who was +3.
That reduces the field size to 114, all trying to grab one of nine places.
PETER UIHLEIN INCREASES LEAD
Peter Uihlein is romping away with it at the moment. He's now -10, four ahead of three in T2.
Another player to look out for is Joel Dahmen, who is now tied for sixth on -4 and closing in on a US Open spot.
GARCIA IN THE PACK
Sergio Garcia has now completed three-quarters of his challenge. He's currently at -2, which is well within reach of the current target of -4 with nine to play.
He missed the US Open in 2025. The first time that had happened in 26 years. Can he prove that was a one-off in the next couple of hours?
WHO'S ABOVE THE CUT LINE?
You know things are getting a bit closer when the official projected cut line appears on the leaderboard. That's where we are now, and currently, nine players are occupying T9, with notable names among them including Joel Dahmen, Adrien Dumont de Chassart and Sebastian Munoz.
Just the other side of the line are the likes of Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell and Mackenzie Hughes.
All three, by the way, are just one away from forcing their way above the line.
MCDOWELL IN POSITION
Former US Open champion Graeme McDowell is now up to T8 and in with a great chance of getting to Shinnecock Hills. He's -2 for his second round and going well.
McDowell last played in the US Open in 2020...
GHIM ON THE SLIDE
Of all those above the projected cut line, Doug Ghim is having the poorest second round. He's +4 after nine holes and from sitting pretty at the top at the halfway stage, he's now one of 12 who would face a playoff were it to end now.
DP WORLD TOUR WINNER ON THE MOVE
While Doug Ghim needs to do something to arrest the slide, going the other way is Jordan Gumberg.
He's -4 over his second 18 so far to sneak into a T9 and the possibility of at least a playoff for a Shinnecock Hills tee time.
The two-time DP World Tour winner has played in the US Open once, missing the cut in 2023.
AMATEUR CHANCES
One of the great things about US Open final qualifying is the chance it offers amateurs to earn a spot at the Major.
As things stand, though, none will be heading there from the Dallas qualifier, with the closest amateur to the cut line being Ty Adkins, who is three back.
KNOCKING ON THE DOOR...
Several notable names are knocking on the door here. One is Eugenio Chacarra, who is on -3, one below the cut line. Then there's former Masters low amateur Sam Bennett on the same score.
Spanish LIV Golfers Sergio Garcia and Jose Luis Ballester are currently two back on -2, as are Mackenzie Hughes and Eric Cole.
BYEONG HUN AN ABOVE CUT LINE
Byeong Hun An is the latest notable name to force his way above the projected cut line. He's -3 in his second 18 and -4 in total to leave him in a playoff as things stand.
WELL PLAYED, PETER!
Peter Uihlein's 36 holes are done, and he will have headed to the clubhouse more than happy with his day's work. He finishes on -9, giving him a lead of two and surely a ticket to the US Open - his first since 2018.
Peter Uihlein will (likely) play his first Major since 2018. He just shot -9 in Dallas at final Qualifying for US Open. Almost everyone still on the course, but he's 3 better than anyone else and 5 clear of the current number.May 18, 2026
MISSTEP FOR SERGIO GARCIA
Is this getting away from Sergio Garcia? He's just bogeyed the 13th of his final round to drop him back to -1 overall. That's three back of what he currently needs, and he's running out of holes.
BALLESTER FALLS SHORT
Along with leader Uihlein, another back in the clubhouse is another LIV Golfer, Jose Luis Ballester. It's not going to be his day though. He's finished on -2, two back of the current cutline.
ABOVE THE CUT LINE
With Uihlein safely back in the clubhouse with a US Open place all but secured, who else looks likely to join him?
In second is Cooper Dossey, who you'll usually find on the Korn Ferry Tour. Tom Kim and Graeme McDowell are also going well, as are LIV Golf's Caleb Surratt and former University of Houston golfer Austyn Reily.
Henrik Norlander, Doug Ghim, Byeong Hun An and the Korn Ferry Tour's Cooper Musselman are also above the cut line.
HOLES RUNNING OUT FOR SERGIO
Sergio Garcia is running out of holes. He's -3 for his second 18, but that still leaves him two short of the projected cut line at -2 overall. He needs to do even more over the closing three holes or a second year without a US Open appearance beckons.
ONE LAST PUSH, SERGIO!
The projected cut line is at -4, which means Sergio Garci needs a couple of birdies in his final three holes to sneak into a playoff as things stand. Let's see if he can get there.
MAIDEN MAJOR START BECKONS FOR COOPER DOSSEY
Cooper Dossey is the latest player above the cut line to finish. He gets home on -7 to stand in second and on the verge of the US Open and his maiden Major appearance.
JOB DONE FOR JIMMY STANGER
Jimmy Stanger will also hope he's done enough. He finishes on -4 to sit T4 as things stand. A playoff could be in the offing for the player.
TIME RUNNING OUT FOR SERGIO
Just two holes left now for Sergio Garcia to force his way above the cut line. A par at 16 means he's still two short. Another in the same position is Mackenzie Hughes, and that's where he'll stay. Agony for the Canadian.
GRAEME NEARLY THERE
Graeme McDowell is on the verge of making it the US Open. The 2010 champion is on -5 with just two holes to play after a birdie on the 16th. The projected cut line is -4.
SO CLOSE FOR SURRATT
LIV Golfer Caleb Surratt's day is done, and it doesn't look like it's quite enough. He's stranded on -3, one beneath the cut line.
KIM ON THE CUSP
Tom Kim is a step closer to a US Open spot. He's now right behind clubhouse leader Peter Uihlein on -8.
ALL OVER FOR GARCIA
Sergio Garcia's US Open challenge has fallen short. He finishes on -1 following a second round of 68, three below the current cut line of -4.
Other LIV Golfers who won't be heading to Shinnecock Hills are Abraham Ancer and Branden Grace, who complete their rounds on the same score.
BOGEY AT THE LAST FOR MCDOWELL!
Graeme McDowell's US Open place looks a little more precarious after a bogey on the 36th hole.
He drops back to -4 - still above the projected cut line, but quite probably heading for a playoff. He'll be kicking himself, but at least the worst-case scenario looks like another chance.
MANAV SHAH ON THE WAY
Manav Shah, who played on the Asian Tour in 2024 and 2025, is back in the clubhouse on -5 and looking good for a US Open place. This would be his maiden Major appearance.
ANOTHER FINISHES
Adrien Dumont de Chassart is the latest to finish above the cut line. He's on -4 and likely heading for a playoff. He has one US Open appearance, a missed cut in 2022.
HEARTBREAK FOR HENRIK
Heartbreak for Henrik Norlander, who was above the cut line... until back-to-back bogeys to finish his second round leave him on -3, one the wrong side of it.
TIME RUNNING OUT FOR CHASERS
The players above the cut line are looking increasingly locked in... but there are still some players who could join the party.
Scott Vincent and Joel Dahmen are two notables, with each having a few holes left, albeit needing some birdies, to scramble their way into a playoff.
CUT LINE DRAMA!
There's drama at the final qualifier as the cut line moves back to -3, meaning that players including Graeme McDowell could now avoid a playoff, while the likes of Henrik Norlander earn a reprieve - at least for the time being.
Here's Monday Q Info's explanation of the improbable events that led to it.
At the Dallas USO Qualifier 3 guys have just gone bogey-bogey to knock all the -3's back into a playoff. They had almost no hope of getting in, now in a possible 6 for 1 playoff if it holds, just a few more scores to come in.May 18, 2026
CAN JOEL DO IT?
As things stand, there'll be a 7-for-1 playoff, but we're not quite there yet. One player hoping to get involved is Joel Dahmen, who is currently just one back with two to play.
AS IT STANDS...
We're now very close to confirmation of a playoff, with Caleb Surratt, Henrik Norlander, Kevin Streelman, Eugenio Chacarra, Cooper Musselman, Chandler Phillips and TK Kim.
We're just waiting for Kim to finish, but, barring a miracle further down, no one else will be joining it.
Peter Uihlein, Tom Kim, Cooper Dossey, Manav Shah, Jimmy Stanger, 2010 champion Graeme McDowell and Adrien Dumont de Chassart are set to qualify automatically.
TK KIM SAFELY IN THE US OPEN!
Former Boise State University player TK Kim makes a birdie at the last to avoid a playoff and qualify automatically! That leaves us with a 6-for-1 playoff to decide the ninth and final spot. Let's see how that plays out shortly...
LIV GOLF'S CALEB SURRATT WINS PLAYOFF!
Congratulations to Caleb Surratt, who sees off Henrik Norlander, Eugenio Chacarra, Kevin Streelman, Cooper Musselman and Chandler Phillips to book the ninth and final qualifying spot via a 6-for-1 playoff.
That will be his maiden Major appearance.
Fist pumps all around for Caleb Surratt 👊He earns his spot at Shinnecock Hills 🙌 pic.twitter.com/DJPSrMun23May 19, 2026
