An employee at the Dallas Police Department has been terminated following allegations that she lied about her college degree in order to secure a promotion. The employee, who was a police report representative, was fired after a disciplinary hearing with the police chief.
The police department stated that the employee was dismissed for engaging in adverse conduct related to a fraudulent, substandard, or fictitious degree. Court records indicate that the employee was charged with fraud/fictitious degree in June 2023 for allegedly providing false information about her educational background to advance her career.
Following the charges, the employee failed to appear at a court hearing, resulting in a warrant for her arrest being issued in September. However, the warrant was later recalled for reasons that remain unclear. Subsequently, the district attorney's office dismissed the charge in November after the employee completed a pre-trial intervention program.
It is important to note that in Texas, misrepresenting one's educational qualifications to secure employment or a promotion is considered a serious offense. It is classified as a class B misdemeanor, which can carry penalties of up to 180 days in jail and a fine of $2,000.
