When a player gets drafted into the NFL, it is an emotional day not only for the prospect, but for his entire family as well. That moment is even more special when the player gets drafted to his hometown team or, in the case of Deuce Vaughn, the team where his father works.
The Cowboys selected Vaughn, a running back out of Kansas State, with pick No. 212 in the sixth round. That’s special because Vaughn’s dad, Chris, is the team’s assistant director of college scouting. When Dallas made the choice and told Chris in the Cowboys’ draft room, Chris understandably struggled to hold it together knowing what this meant to him and his son.
Vaughn got up from his seat to hug both Jerry and Stephen Jones for making the move to draft his son.

Chris Vaughn has been with the Cowboys since 2017, and spent the previous 18 years of his career as a college scout, including at the University of Texas. The Cowboys posted a picture on Twitter of the father and son attending a Dallas game as fans when Deuce was a kid.

Deuce already has played at AT&T Stadium, rushing for 130 yards and a touchdown in the Big 12 championship game last season against TCU. The 5’ 6” running back totaled 3,808 yards from scrimmage with 34 total touchdowns over the past two years for the Wildcats.
