It looks as though Odell Beckham Jr could be wanted by the Dallas Cowboys after all, after owner Jerry Jones told fans to 'stand by' over a decision.
Beckham Jr remains a free agent after leaving Super Bowl champions Los Angeles Rams last season, but has been recovering from a torn ACL ever since. The 30-year-old is still a wanted man, and has been doing the rounds in order to find a new team.
The wide receiver visited the Cowboys facility earlier this month, but left without a contract due to fears over his fitness - which was confirmed by Jones himself. However, he's since gone back on his word, and teased fans that a deal could 'break' in the near future.
"I don't want to talk about that but stand by," Jones said at the latest NFL owners meeting this week when asked about Beckham Jr. "This thing could break."
Jones only recently admitted that he "wasn't confident" about Beckham Jr due to his health, and even stated on a Dallas radio show on Tuesday that the star "isn't ready to play right now". Jones initially seemed put off by the deal as he wanted Beckham Jr to be ready for the post-season.
It looks as though Beckham Jr will be one for the next campaign, but Jones may not want to see him join a rival organisation, and is still tempted to make a move. Initially, Jones said: "Now, we all realise that issue of health, that issue of availability is here every time.
"Just this one is very obvious and very pointed toward his injury that occurred last year in the Super Bowl. We got a good bead on that. We got a great read on his career. It’s not like a draft pick coming at you.
"You got a lot of history here and you can take a good look at, not only the obvious and that’s his performance, but also any issues regarding health. So, all of this we got to come in with our eyes wide open and it has to be addressed, and that’s when you can see if you can make a deal or not."
The links between Beckham Jr and the Cowboys have been a rollercoaster of emotions, with Jones seemingly unwilling to give up on the deal despite his clear instincts about the injury problems. Jones even compared their negotiations to a marriage, as he said: "We had pretty extensive meetings. We spent quite a bit of time together.
"I enjoyed every minute of it. We’ll get back together and see where we go from here. (There's) a lot of variables. It has to fit for both parties. This is like getting married. You’re not getting together to have issues after you get together."
After also visiting the New York Giants and being linked to the Buffalo Bills, rumours spiked as Beckham Jr was seen attending the Dallas Mavericks with Cowboys stars Trevon Diggs and Micah Parsons, but they mean nothing until Jones is happy to do business. And it seems like even Jones can't decide.
