Dalby residents 'over it' and ready to move after four floods in five months claim homes, businesses

Fed-up flood victims in the western Queensland town of Dalby say they are considering moving after four floods in five months swamped homes and businesses.

Heavy rainfall overnight saw flood levels peak in Dalby at 3.6 metres in the early hours of Tuesday.

"Sunday it was dry, and then 24 hours later we got an inland river. It could be worse though, [we] could be down in Lismore."

Myall Creek peaked just 10 centimetres below the 2011 level, but several homes were inundated and hundreds were damaged.

Hundreds of residents in the region remain without power.

The latest flood emergency in southern Queensland has so far claimed two lives.

Mr Russell said the water was a centimetre away from getting inside his house, close enough to make him consider leaving town.

'I'm over it. I've been keen to buy a property out of town the last few years and I think this is the push I need to make that jump," he said.

"Get away from all of this."

Nervous night watching the water rise

Another local, Les Mullins, spent the night watching the water rise.

His son, who has a disability, was stuck with his carer overnight as the water cut him off from returning home.

"I don't want to see any more for a while."

Several businesses in town were also hit by floodwaters, including the local caravan park.

Owner John Wadwell helped move 20 caravans to the showgrounds on Monday, but he was relieved waters did not rise as high as expected.

"We fared pretty well here. It's the people in town I feel sorry for. It's been four floods in about five months," he said.

Mr Wadwell conceded his business would take a hit.

"Clean up will be an all-day job today and tomorrow," he said.

"We probably won't get anyone in today."

Roads still need repairs from previous floods

Roads have also been significantly impacted.

"We haven't even gotten round to getting started on all the repairs from the last floods," Mayor Paul McVeigh said.

Mr Wadwell said locals were hoping people would do the right thing today so they could move on to recovery mode.

"Just stupid. Let us do our jobs and clean up and come and help us."

Myall Creek is expected to slowly recede further today, but more substantial rainfall is forecast across the Darling Downs and into northern NSW in the coming days.
