We had already seen that the Chicago Bears’ defense was not ready for prime time in their Sunday game against the Dallas Cowboys when they went “tackling optional” on Dak Prescott’s seven-yard touchdown run with 10:18 left in the first quarter. Prescott cut though Chicago’s alleged defense as if he was the head mascot in a halftime game against local third-graders.

This ugly phenomenon reared its head once again with 11:29 left in the first half. The Cowboys had third-and-1 from the Chicago 43-yard line, Prescott was just trying to get the first down with a quarterback sneak… but he was more than happy to once again take advantage of Chicago’s most hospitable defense. The result? The rarely-seen 25-yard quarterback sneak.

And yes, running back Tony Pollard hit it on an 18-yard touchdown run on the very next play.

Pollard is a great player worthy of starter consideration, but again, we have to ask — what is UP with this run tackling?
And how rare is it to get such an explosive play out of a quarterback sneak? Let’s put it this way: Per Sports Info Solutions, there had been 150 quarterback sneak runs through the first seven weeks of the 2022 NFL season — for a total of 225 yards. So, Prescott now has 10% of the NFL’s quarterback sneak yardage, on one play.
Great looks for Dak; not so much for Matt Eberflus’ defense.
