Daithi O Se to be replaced on RTE's Today by two new hosts after testing positive for Covid-19

Daithi O Se will be missing in action at work this week after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Today show host will be replaced by former Winning Street host Derek Mooney and GAA broadcaster Marty Morrissey throughout the week as he isolates at home.

An RTE spokesperson confirmed the news to the Irish Daily Mirror on Sunday evening.

They said: "Daithi O'Se will be absent from Today on RTÉ One this week as he has tested positive for Covid-19.

Derek Mooney will be in studio on Monday and Tuesday with Sinead Kennedy and on Wednesday with Maura Derrane.

Marty Morrissey will co-present with Maura this coming Thursday and Friday".

Dáithí took to social media on Monday morning to update his followers on the news.

Sharing a picture of a positive antigen test, he said: "So good people, at the weekend I tested positive for Covid-19 after avoiding it for almost two years.

"I feel fluey and achey. I have pains. I can't taste anything or smell much, but other than that, I'm fine. I just thought I'd let you all know.

"I'll be back hopefully on the Today Show next week. Best of luck to Derek Mooney and Marty Morrissey who are sitting in for the week. God bless and stay safe everyone."

The Kerry man, 45, currently lives in Co. Galway with his wife and former Rose of Tralee contestant Rita and their seven-year-old son Mícheál Óg.

He travels to RTE’s Cork studio everyday to present the daily chat show alongside Sinead and Maura.

But RTE have confirmed the star will remain off air this week as he recovers from the virus at home.

The Rose of Tralee host and avid GAA fan has been keeping himself busy over the weekend keeping up with the return of the league as he watched his home county Kerry take on Kildare in the Allianz Football League.

Posting from bed as he watched the match on a live stream on TG4 on his laptop, he said: “Good to have the league back”.

His absence comes after his co-presenter Sinead made her return to the Today show earlier this month after taking an extended maternity leave.

The Cork native, who welcomed her first baby, a daughter Indie, with husband Conor Kirwan last March joined the show last year after host Maura stepped back from presenting duties on Monday and Tuesday shows.

Daithi now presents the afternoon show alongside Sinead on Monday and Tuesday and his long-running co-host Maura on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The Today show airs weekdays on RTE One from 3.30pm.
