Daisy Edgar-Jones found a distinctive way to connect her latest red-carpet appearance with the literary world of Jane Austen. At the London premiere of Sense and Sensibility, the actor wore a custom Vivienne Westwood gown alongside two Boucheron archival jewelry pieces that date back to 1877.
Edgar-Jones attended the film's world premiere at Leicester Square in London on September 15. She stars as Elinor Dashwood in the new adaptation of Austen's classic novel, directed by Georgia Oakley and written by Diana Reid.
For the occasion, Edgar-Jones worked with stylist Dani Michelle on a custom Vivienne Westwood design. British Vogue described the gown as a champagne-colored duchesse-satin creation featuring a cinched waist and knotted bow details, while Harper's Bazaar described it as an oyster-colored gown with a draped neckline and long asymmetrical skirt.
The gown was paired with custom Aquazzura heels. Edgar-Jones kept the rest of the styling relatively pared back, wearing her hair in a relaxed half-up, half-down arrangement.
Two Boucheron Pieces Bring 19th-Century History to the Look
The jewelry supplied an especially direct connection to the past. Edgar-Jones wore a Boucheron pendant and cameo ring from the maison's Private Collection, with both pieces dating to 1877.
The pendant was worn from a velvet ribbon and incorporates yellow gold, silver, diamonds and agate. British Vogue reported that the agate contains natural inclusions that create a landscape-like pattern within the stone.
The accompanying cameo ring was also made in 1877. The piece combines yellow gold and agate and features carved figures and shell motifs associated with the Louis XV style, according to reporting on the archival jewelry.
The two pieces were not simply contemporary jewelry designed to resemble something from the period. They are genuine 19th-century pieces from Boucheron's archives, giving the premiere styling a tangible connection to the era associated with Austen's work.
There is also an interesting chronological detail behind the pairing. Austen's Sense and Sensibility was first published in 1811, while the Boucheron pieces worn by Edgar-Jones were created 66 years later, in 1877.
A Modern Take on the World of Sense and Sensibility
The historical jewelry fits into a wider approach to Edgar-Jones's promotional wardrobe for the film. British Vogue reported that she and Michelle have incorporated references associated with the period, including corsetry, lace, puffed silks, florals and brocade, while working with contemporary fashion designers.
That balance is also evident in the premiere look. Instead of relying solely on period-inspired clothing, the styling placed an unmistakably contemporary Vivienne Westwood gown alongside jewelry that was actually made in the 19th century.
Edgar-Jones has previously worn Vivienne Westwood on the red carpet, including a gown for the London premiere of Twisters in 2024. Speaking to British Vogue about returning to the label for Sense and Sensibility, she said, "It feels so special to be wearing Westwood again."
The choice is particularly relevant given Edgar-Jones's role in the new adaptation. As Elinor Dashwood, she plays one half of the Dashwood sisters, with Esmé Creed-Miles portraying Marianne. The story follows the sisters after their family's financial circumstances change, placing their relationships and contrasting personalities at the center of the adaptation.
For the London premiere, the fashion credits remained firmly rooted in the present while the jewelry reached back into the past. The combination of custom Vivienne Westwood, Aquazzura and two Boucheron pieces from 1877 gave Edgar-Jones's red-carpet appearance a documented historical detail that tied naturally to the film she was there to promote.
