A dad who ran off with a Ukrainian refugee just days after his family took her in has defended himself against the torrent of abuse the pair have recieved.
Tony Garnett, 29, left his partner Lorna, 28, for Sofiia Karkadym, 22, after she had moved in with them in Bradford, West Yorkshire as part of the UK Government's refugee rehoming scheme. Sofiia had fled the horrors of her hometown Lviv at the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and headed to Bradford via Germany.
Dad-of-two Tony, who runs his own security firm, became Sofiia's sponsor - but just over a week after she arrived at their home the pair became an item.
