Dad who 'always made people smile' dies after wife finds spot on his back

A dad died after a spot discovered by his wife turned out to be cancer.

Paul Manchester, 56, an accountant from Ormskirk, was diagnosed with a rare and serious form of skin cancer after wife, Kath, encouraged him to check out a spot she had found on his back. Paul was given the initial diagnosis in December 2018, after taking "a little while" to go to the doctor after Kath's worrying discovery.

Further tests showed the cancer had spread to his lungs and liver, and had progressed from stage two melanoma to stage four. After two years of chemotherapy and immunotherapy at a centre in St Helen's, it was discovered last August the cancer had spread to Paul's brain and in January of this year he died at home surrounded by family.
