A dad-of-two and a former IT contractor stole 60 iPads that were supposed to go to the homes of sick children to help them with their learning. Mohammed Moosbally stole nearly £30,000 of equipment belonging to the hospital.
However the 54-year-old was spared jail after his personal circumstances including PTSD following the Hillsborough disaster, came to light. Moosbally sold the stolen iPads to pay for drugs and accommodation when he was sleeping rough.
One hundred brand new iPads bought at a cost of £48,000 were delivered to Alder Hey on May 26 last year. The hospital had earmarked the devices to go to the homes of sick children, as part of a scheme that is due to launch in November.
