Dad raced to hospital 'praying for a miracle' after son, 10, hit by car

A dad raced to hospital "praying for a miracle" after he heard his 10-year-old son had been hit by a car.

Charlie Lowe, 10, died in hospital on Friday (April 21) after being hit by a Ford Puma on Abingdon Road, Walton at around 4.30pm on Thursday (April 20). People living on the road rushed to help Charlie before paramedics took him to hospital, where he died from his injuries.

On Saturday, Charlie's parents issued tributes to their son. Charlie's dad said he ran to hospital when he first heard that his son had been hit by a car.

He said: “There isn’t a word to describe how amazing and loved you are and how missed you will be. The most beautiful boy in the world.

“When you arrived I had to split my heart between you and your brother Daniel, sister Rachael and brother Bobby. I never knew for certain what real love was but I did when my amazing children entered my life.

“I will always cherish the short time I had with you, the hugs and kisses and laughs we had. The days out, you playing football and on Fifa.

“When I heard the tragic news, I came running to the hospital praying for a miracle.

“Charlie, I miss you mate so much it’s killing me inside as it is for your brothers and sister. All my love Charlie, I hope you rest in peace, Dad.”

Charlie's mum added: “Football mad, Charlie was taken away suddenly and we will always miss him. He was a huge LFC fan and knew everything about the team.

“He was also a keen cross country runner. He was exceptionally happy, very smart and very funny. Charlie loved school and loved life and he will be sorely missed by everyone."

Following Charlie's death, tributes were left at a tree near to where the incident occurred. Flowers, cards and a Liverpool FC scarf were there, along with a bottle of hydration drink Body Fuel.

A message left with the bottle read: "I'll miss your funny jokes and witty comments and doing cross country with you. Here's your favourite drink to take up with you. Love your friend Recce."

ECHO readers have also paid tribute to Charlie. Commenting on the ECHO Facebook page, Hatawa Chow, who lives in the area, said: "So heartbreaking. Can't stop thinking about this poor little boy and his family and friends, it's like our whole community has gone into mourning, it's never been so quiet even though a lot of us didn't even know him, you can actually feel the sadness - so young poor little boy".

Emma Callan said: "Rest In peace little man, thoughts are with family and friends xxx"

Laura White said: "Deepest sympathy to the family of your beautiful boy". Helen Roberts added: "So sad. Thoughts are with the family. Rest in peace little man xx".

Other tributes at the scene said: "RIP Charlie. Gone but never forgotten, always in our hearts. YNWA" and "We miss you Charlie".

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper from Merseyside Police's Matrix Roads Policing Unit said: "Our sincere condolences go out to the family and we will be supporting them in the coming days and weeks after this tragic incident.

“Enquiries continue and we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or captured anything on dashcam or other devices.

"You can contact us in various ways but please ensure you pass on any information as soon as you can, so we can establish the circumstances.”
