Dad dies just weeks after being diagnosed with devastating disease

A dad of two has died just weeks after being told he had a life-changing diagnosis.

Manny Crufes owner of Bootle Pets & Aquatics, first started struggling with his digestion whenever he ate meat. This quickly worsened to the point where he was struggling to make it through the day due to pain and then at the end of April he found himself struggling to walk.

On May 2 his wife, Julie, and daughter, Christina, took the decision to ring an ambulance and he was kept in hospital for tests. Following a number of tests, he was diagnosed with liver and bowel cancer on May 6. Two weeks later, the Bootle man was given the news that he was going to be placed on end-of-life care.

The 60-year-old returned home where he had a hospital bed and carers visiting him four times a day before his death on June 21. Christina, 21, told the ECHO : "It was a big shock. We've not all processed it yet either. I have a little brother who is nine and he processes things differently to us. It's such a shock. He couldn't stand up when he came home from the hospital so we had a hospital bed and carers coming out four times a day every day."

When asked what her dad was like, the primary education student described him as the type of person who would "never give up" She added: "My mum is really upset by it. We didn't realise we needed to do the funeral straight away. So much is happening she's constantly busy with sorting things and because he knew so many people she is having to tell someone every day that he has died."

Now Christina has set up a GoFundMe to raise money to help with the cost of the funeral, with her aiming to raise £4,000 as the family begins the preparations. She said: "I know my mum is really moved by it and we do need the money quite soon because the funeral needs to happen soon. We thought we had time to sort the funeral but we don't."
