A family have been left devastated after their dad passed away during a dream trip to Edinburgh.
Marin Badea, aged 69, tragically died in his sleep at his AirBnB on the second night of his holiday in the capital.
Originally from Costesti, Romania, he now lived in London with his wife, Doina, aged 67, Edinburgh Live reports.
They had travelled to see their 39-year-old daughter Ruxandra Badea for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak.
Ruxandra explained her dad had been excited to see Edinburgh, with the family driving up to the capital on Wednesday, May 11.
Staying in the city centre along with a few friends, they began with a trip to the Holyrood Distillery and a visit to Edinburgh Castle.
They then followed this with a relaxed evening of food, whisky and a sing-along.
Then the next morning, Ruxandra and Doina woke to find Marin unresponsive before attempting to give him CPR.
Ruxandra said: "On Thursday (May 12) we went to the distillery and my dad loved the history of whisky and he had a really nice time. Then later on we went to Edinburgh Castle.
"Then we went back to the apartment at around 5pm as it started raining, they had a sleep for half an hour and then I ordered a Chinese.
"We were in the house with our friends, we had food and whisky and we were enjoying it and telling stories, we had a great time and started singing sitting next to the fireplace, it was lovely.
"At around 10pm we all went to sleep, I slept with my mum in the bedroom and my dad on the couch bed in the living room on this occasion as he was snoring.
On Friday morning my mum got up around 7am and went straight to my dad as he's an early bird, he's always up at around 5.30am but there was no movement.
"I started to hear her talking to him and then saying things like 'what's going on', 'wakeup', and then she started screaming."
Given the devastating news that Marin had passed away a few hours before they found him, Ruxandra and her mother spoke to police and the emergency services as he was taken to the mortuary.
Now waiting on the paperwork allowing his release, Ruxandra has been trying to raise the funds to have her father's body flown home to Romania where he can be buried.
Currently back in London, she is also caring for her mum, who injured her back attempting CPR, and is now temporarily using a wheelchair.
Ruxandra continued: "You keep thinking why did we not wake up or check in with him, but he had no problems the day before and was really happy and smiling being with me and my mum and my friends.
"They took him to the mortuary and I haven't seen him since, they phoned on Monday to say it would take around eight or eleven days to get the paperwork ready for us to take him.
"Everyone is waiting for him, he was so loved and well-known in my home town, everyone knew him and he was so kind and always helped everyone.
"He taught me to kind and help everyone, so he has really given me strength now in this hard time to get him home and make sure he rests in peace.
"He was a wonderful man and all his friends, everyone, they are all waiting for him at home."
