Dad breaks silence after daughter found dead in apartment before her son's 5th birthday

A heartbroken dad has paid tribute to his daughter after she was found dead in her home just hours before her little boy's fifth birthday.

Within days, loved ones and strangers have raised more than $15,000AUD (£7,800) to help Tatiana "Tania" Dokotaru's dad to repatriate her body.

Tania's corpse was found just hours before her little boy was due to celebrate his fifth birthday in Liverpool, Sydney, on Saturday night at 8pm.

She had made a call for help on Friday night at around 11.45pm.

The circumstances surrounding her death are currently under investigation but her abusive boyfriend Danny Zayat is said to have been at the apartment when her body was found.

Zayat had been arrested in the past on a number of domestic violence charges, including the destruction of property.

He has not been charged in relation to Tania's death.

On Friday, when Tatiana made her desperate call for help, they took three hours to get to the apartment block in Sydney, Australia.

Once outside, they were unable to enter so left the location.

They were called again the following day by a concerned neighbour and gained entry to the property, where they found Tania's lifeless body.

The delay has been attributed to the call not being labelled a top priority.

People have been donating to a GoFundMe to help Tania's family in the wake of her tragic death.

Her dad Dennis Thievin will use the funds to fly out to Australia, where he will meet with local police, reports 7News.

Part of the money will also be used to fly her body home to Canada.

Speaking to the broadcaster, he said: "We just never in a million years thought it would unfold like this."

“It’s not supposed to be that way.

“You don’t expect it to happen to your family.”

Some of the cash may also be used to help Tatiana's young son, who spent his fifth birthday racked with grief.

A friend wrote on the page: "Tatiana left us too soon."

“Her little boy is forever without a mother.

“Help us to ease the burden on this unfortunate family.”
