Dad asks if Amazon message from 'Princess Diana' is a joke - but it's worker's real name

After an Amazon order for his young son's space hopper resulted in a bit of delivery confusion, James Brand was forced to contact the retail giant's customer service team for assistance.

However, after hopping on Amazon's customer service chat on Tuesday to alert them to the toy having been delivered, the 41-year-old scientist was somewhat surprised to find himself being greeted by one of the most famous women of the 20th century: the late Princess Diana.

After clocking the name of the rep he was speaking with, James, who had been on the train home from work at the time, couldn't help but laugh, sending a screenshot of the image to his wife Alison - before joking 'is Diana actually dead - or working for Amazon?'

James, of Rainhill, Merseyside, said: "When I saw it I had a giggle to myself. Is this something we don't know about Amazon? Is [Diana] actually dead? Did she fake her death and is she working at Amazon?

"When I joined the chat and spoke to the chatbot it put me through to the advisor and that's what came up.

"It's just a weird name for someone to have on the chat. I just thought it was a bit funny so I screenshotted it."

He continued: "I think they'd given themselves that nickname on the chat because when I've spoken to advisors in the past, they've just been normal names like Sophie. Obviously, I'm not sure where they're based or if it's even in the UK, but I think maybe somebody did it as a joke or they'd just changed it".

Although declining to give further comment, Amazon has since confirmed the name is indeed real, however, it doesn't appear that James was actually chatting with the beloved People's Princess.

In the Philippines, 'Princess' has ranked amongst the most popular baby names in recent years, whether or not the bearer has any royal lineage.

James revealed that his wife had been left equally tickled by his regal encounter: "I showed the message to my wife and she laughed when she saw it. She said 'why's someone put that as their username?' Friends have had the same reaction, they laughed and said it was a strange name. I shared it with a couple of friends on WhatsApp".
