A dad has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour at the age of 34 just months after the birth of his daughter. Owain James, a plumber and keen footballer, started suffering with severe headaches and what doctors later found out were seizures.
After visiting the A&E department at the The Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran and undergoing scans it was discovered that he was living with a grade-four brain tumour, known as a glioma, and would need urgent surgery. Medics admitted that if no action had been taken the Caerphilly resident would have died months later.
His heartbroken wife Ellie James, 33, said Owain was playing football for his beloved Church Village FC just a week before the diagnosis on September 4 and in May took part in a 10km race with friends. The pair, who have an 18-month-old daughter called Amelia, have now promised each other that they will do "anything and everything" to have as much time together as possible.
