D’Andre Swift focused on helping Eagles win instead of undervalued running back market

Running backs around the NFL are unhappy, and in an ironic twist of fate, the Eagles committee approach to the position is a significant reason.

Indianapolis Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor is the latest running back to voice his displeasure, going public with his demand for a trade as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.

Over the past three seasons, The Eagles have been among the league leaders in rushing despite utilizing multiple ball carriers to make the formula successful.

There is no unhappiness in the running back room with the Philadelphia Eagles, with D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny more focused on wins, than the next contract.

Penny had this to say via Ed Kracze and Sports Illustrated.

“I think everybody deserves their worth,” said Penny. “The guys that are unhappy, I feel for them because I’m a running back. But at the end of the day, I only can control what I can control. All the running backs in that situation are all great running backs in their own right.

“I do wish it was better, but it’s nothing that we can control. We just gotta keep coming out and playing ball. That’s the way the game is right now.”

Swift, Rashaad Penny, and Boston Scott will all be unrestricted free agents at the season’s end.

It’ll be interesting to see if GM Howie Roseman offers either player a team-friendly contract extension.
