Actress Cynthia Nixon, 57, has expressed her fears leading up to Kim Cattrall's highly anticipated Samantha cameo in Season 2 of And Just Like That, admitting she is worried it will not live up to fans' expectations.
After the success of season one of the Sex in the City reboot, the show is coming back for season two ready to share the exciting tales of Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda as they navigate life, love, and friendship in their 50s. And it has been leaked that Samantha, played by Kim, will be popping in for a guest cameo appearance.
Cynthia, who plays the role as workaholic Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City, has seen the excited buzz from fans after hearing the news and wants to manage their expectations.
She told the Sunday Times Style: "I worry that with all the build-up people are going to wonder what all the fuss was about. It’s important to know that it is a very brief, very small cameo."
Cynthia goes on to share that the show wanted the cameo to be a surprise for their fans, but the news was leaked early.
"We were very disappointed that the secret leaked of Kim’s upcoming appearance,” she explained. "We so hoped it was something people wouldn’t know about until they saw the episode and that it would be a fun surprise as they were watching.”
Kim originally declined HBO's offer when asked to play the character of Samantha in "And Just Like That." Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte explain Samatha's absence from the show in the first few episodes of season one revealing that she now lives in London following a falling out with Carrie.
But after popular demand to get the beloved character back on screen, Nixon agreed to do a cameo in the newest season. In the cameo, it has been revealed Samantha will have a phone conversation with Carrie Bradshaw, played by actress Sarah Jessica Parker. In the season one finale of "And Just Like That" Carrie communicated with Samantha over text, and the two made plans to reunite. So although the cameo is expected to be brief, fans are thrilled to see what the two will say.
Speaking to Hoda Kotb and Jenna Hager on Today in June, Kim shared this cameo appearance is the furthest she'll go with being a part of the show.
“It felt like dipping my toe back in time and having a wonderful afternoon,” she said in the interview. But the star made it clear she will not be continuing her role as Samantha. "That’s as far as I’m gonna go,” she said.
When asked if this is goodbye to her character of Samantha, Cattrall says that she will always have a special tie to the role.
“I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye to Samantha,” said Cattrall. "She’s like a lot of other characters that I’ve done over the years. I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She gave me so much, and I’m so appreciative of her.”
Although the iconic actress will not be playing Samatha, she is not done with her television performances just yet. Cattrall is now one of the main characters of a new show "Glamorous" that is now streaming on Netflix, playing legendary makeup mogul Madolyn Addison.
