Cyclists could face penalty points for speeding - have your say in response to Grant Shapps

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has proposed changing road laws so people on bicycles have to abide by 20mph speed limits or face penalties. Not only could cyclists need number plates in the future, but tighter speed restrictions could see more people face harsher punishments if they fail to abide by them.

The Secretary of State for Transport has flagged changing road laws, so that people riding bicycles receive penalty points similar to people driving cars.

Less than a fortnight after vowing to create a "death by dangerous cycling" law that will treat killer cyclists the same as motorists, Mr Shapps said he wanted to stop certain behaviour on the roads. The Welwyn Hatfield MP recently said: “Somewhere where cyclists are actually not breaking the law is when they speed, and that cannot be right, so I absolutely propose extending speed limit restrictions to cyclists."

So, do you agree with these potential rule changes for cyclists? Do you think cyclists should receive penalty points, like motorists? And what are your thoughts on the potential idea of bicycles receiving number plates?
