A cyclist left with agonising injuries after being struck by a car three months ago has urged the driver to come forward to give her closure on the ordeal.
Champion rider Christina Mackenzie was left lying on the road with a shattered pelvis after a car towing an agricultural trailer ploughed into her whilst she was on a training ride. The driver took off without stopping to help.
Christina, 45, was struck by the SUV-type car on the busy B822 – at the Kippen roundabout – at around 5pm on Tuesday, September 27.
Police launched an investigation, later releasing a still image from CCTV which showed the vehicle and trailer suspected of causing the collision.
However, almost three months later the driver has yet to be traced and Christina has urged the motorist responsible to do the right thing and hand themselves in to police.
Police also reiterated the message urging the driver to “come forward”.
Speaking to the Observer this week, Christina, from Cambusbarron, says she has been left with continuing pain after suffering four fractures to her pelvis in the sickening collision and she is continuing to undergo physiotherapy as well as counselling to help her come to terms with the ordeal.
Christina added: “It’s frustrating that we’re three months on and the driver still hasn’t come forward. It’s worrying to think that there are still cyclists out there and the driver is still out there.”

Time trial specialist Christina – a member of Stirling Bike Club – was out on a training ride in preparation for two races that weekend – the women’s veterans national championships and Tour of the Trossachs when she was mown down.
The 45-year-old said she was approaching the roundabout from the direction of Stirling and indicated to turn right with her arm and moved to the right hand side of the carriageway. It was at that point that a vehicle, believed to have been an SUV-type car, came up on her right side, she said, colliding with her before the trailer it was towing also hit her, knocking her onto the ground.
Christina, originally from Stornoway, holds the LEJOG and NC500 world records and is the national 12 hour time trial holder, among a long list of other achievements.
In May this year, we told how Christina was on the roads again for a second gruelling effort across the north of Scotland. She made history last July when she completed the 839-mile cross-country journey from Land’s End to John o’Groats in 51 hours, five minutes and 27 seconds.
A Police Scotland spokesperson this week said: “Enquiries are still ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with information, or indeed the driver to come forward.”
