Cyclist in hospital after A9 crash with lorry leaving road closed in early hours

A cyclist has been rushed to hospital after a crash with a lorry on the A9 in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services raced to the road at Dalwhinnie after the alarm was raised at around 2.25am on Sunday. The 44-year-old male cyclist was taken to to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.

The man's condition is unknown but he currently remains in hospital. Officers closed the road for several hours and it reopened around 5.45am.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested for alleged road traffic offences. Police say their enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.25 am on Sunday, July 9, 2023, police were called to a road crash on the A9 at Dalwhinnie involving a cyclist and a lorry. The 44-year-old male cyclist was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where he remains for treatment.

“The lorry driver was not injured. The road re-opened around 5.45 am.

“A 31-year-old man has been arrested for alleged road traffic offences. Enquiries are ongoing.”
