Cyclist dies in collision with lorry in Brixton

A cyclist in his 60s has died after a collision with a lorry in Brixton.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said they were called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) at around 4.15pm on Monday to “Mervan Road at the junction with Effra Road” after “reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a lorry”.

They added: “Officers attended along with London Fire Brigade. Effra Road has been closed in both directions.

“Sadly, despite the efforts of emergency services, the cyclist, a man in his 60s, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

“The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.”

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.

A scene has been put in place.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 4830/14Oct.

The incident is the latest cycling fatality in London and comes after a young cyclist was killed in a collision with a tipper lorry in west London last month.

Eight cyclists died on London’s roads last year, one more than 2022.
