Cyclist and lorry crash on Scots city road as emergency services shut down scene

A cyclist and a lorry have crashed in Glasgow city centre sparking a major emergency response this morning.

Mercy crews raced to Broomielaw, near the Grosvenor Casino on the River Clyde, after the alarm was raised at around 10.10am on Friday.

The crash involved a cyclist and a lorry. Images appeared to show a huge emergency response with a number of ambulances, police and firefighters at the scene.

The road remains closed at this time and it is expected to remain shut for some time. The condition of those involved is currently unknown.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are currently in attendance following a serious crash on Broomielaw, near the Casino, which police were called to at 10.10am on Friday, January 27.

"The crash involved a cyclist and a HGV. Emergency services remain at the scene and the road is currently closed."

Fire crews confirmed the quickly sent three appliances to the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "At 10.09am on Friday, 27 January, Operations Control mobilised three appliances and specialist resources to assist emergency service partners at an incident at Broomielaw, Glasgow, where crews remain in attendance."
