When Bindyarani Devi was first selected for the national camp in 2019, she had landed in NIS Patiala without a pair of weightlifting shoes for her workout sessions. Mira di, as she fondly calls her idol Mirabai Chanu, came forward and gifted her training shoes to Bindyarani to ensure that her fellow Manipuri weightlifter settles down in the camp.
On Saturday night, Bindyarani scripted her own sweet success story at her debut CWG in Birmingham. The 23-year-old from Imphal clinched a silver in the women's 55kg category with an overall lift of 202kg (86 snatch+116kg clean and jerk) at the NEC Arena in Solihull.
