Curtis Main believes St Mirren needed to be much more clinical to bag all three points against Hearts.
The Buddies dominated their visitors throughout the first half in Paisley but only had Ryan Strain's deflected free-kick to show for their efforts after spurning multiple opportunities in front of goal.
The Saints' misses came back to bite them when Robert Snodgrass levelled things up after the break, with both teams having to settle for a share of the spoils.
While the draw continued St Mirren's superb unbeaten home run in the Premiership, which now stands at 10 games undefeated, Main insists they should have been celebrating all three points at full-time and urged the side to find a ruthless streak to kick on to the next level.
Main told Renfrewshire Live Sport: "We’re very disappointed not to come away with three points. Especially in the first half, we controlled the game and had numerous chances. You have to take those chances if you want to take three points.
"There were a good few chances in the first half, and even in the second half too. Not clean ones, but half-chances when you think another one or two of them go in it would make life a lot more comfortable.
"It’s a hard-fought point but we’re disappointed we didn’t take three.
"That absolutely shows how far we've come. Even taking it back to the first home game [Motherwell], we’re disappointed we lost that one. We never should have.
"It just shows what we’ve built here, how hard we work and how hard it is for teams to come and take points off us."
St Mirren showed once again what a tight, hard-working team unit they are on Saturday - especially at the SMiSA Stadium.
Main feels the clarity every player has of their role in the side is playing a huge part in their success so far this season.
And the striker paid special tribute to his partner up front Alex Greive, who made his first start for the Saints since returning from New Zealand following the sudden passing of his father.
Main said: "This is a very hard-working team, from back to front. Everyone knows their jobs and I think it shows out on the pitch.
"We’re just hoping to take that type of form with us on the road and pick up a few more points away from home. We've already started to do that.
"We’ve got a really strong squad and we’ve got boys who are ready to step up and who are working hard.
"Credit to Alex. He’s had to go home and deal with difficult family stuff but he’s come back and just got on with the job.
"It’s obviously going to be difficult for him. The boys are all here supporting him every day and trying to keep his spirits high.
"But he’s not down in the dumps or anything like that. As I say, credit to him. He’s come back and slotted straight back to where he was before."
