'Cursed' final photo of man before he plunged 650ft to his death as he looked for phone

A couple posed for a photo together before the man fell 650 feet to his death as he looked to recover a phone that had been dropped.

Andrea Mazzetto, 30, who was described as a hardworking painter, was enjoying a walk in the hillside last Saturday afternoon in Rotzo, Vicenza, when he is believed to have lost his footing and fallen off a precipice.

The final photo of him alive is with his girlfriend Sara Bragante, while climbing the Altar Knotto rock, and afterwards she posted it on Instagram saying: “Our cursed last photo together.

“You will always be with me, my little bear.”

Police said that Mr Mazzetto was trying to retrieve the phone and then fell 650 feet.

Rescue teams reached him using a helicopter but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pair were regular users of social media with Mr Mazzetto having nearly 2,500 Instagram followers and many of his photos were romantic images with his girlfriend.

He had also been uploading snaps from their trip last Saturday. One person said he was “warm, generous and with a big desire to live,” reported Corriere del Veneto newspaper.

It comes after a young Brit died in a tragic accident at the "volcano from hell" in Ecuador.

Gil Banks, 25, was attempting to climb up the Rucu Pichincha volcano near Quito on Sunday, August 14, when he fell to his death.

Banks was originally born in London and grew up in Newton Mearns before he emigrated with his family to Israel, Glasgow Live reported.

He leaves behind his Glaswegian father and English mother following the sad accident.

His horror death was confirmed by the Israeli Embassy in Ecuador.

They said: "The Embassy of Israel in Ecuador laments the death of young Israeli Gil Banks, who suffered a fall while attempting to scale the Rucu Pichincha volcano, located in Quito-Ecuador, on Sunday, August 14.

"The embassy is carrying out the corresponding process following the death of the 25-year-old Israeli.

"We express our solidarity for this profound loss and extend our most sincere condolences to family and friends."
