Cummins' T20 internationals to be managed

Australia's T20 speedster Pat Cummins says he expects to not play all of the lead-up games ahead of the World Cup with the aim to be at his peak at the back-end of the tournament.

Cummins bowled with pace and accuracy in his spell of 2-22 off four overs in the three-wicket T20 international win over the West Indies at Metricon Stadium on Wednesday night, a victory secured with just one ball to spare.

Australia play their opening T20 World Cup match on Saturday, October 22 against New Zealand at the SCG and still have five scheduled games before then.

Australia will play the West Indies in a second T20 international in Brisbane on Friday before flying to Perth the following day ahead of Sunday's clash in the same format with England.

That will be the first of three internationals against their old rivals before they fly back to Brisbane for a World Cup warm-up match against India on October 17.

Cummins was asked whether he and fellow fast bowler Josh Hazlewood would have their game time managed.

"I think so ... I don't think we will play all five but I'm keen to play quite a few of them," Cummins said.

"Certainly with each game I feel slightly better. We'll manage it."

Australia have their eyes on the ultimate prize of being the first team in history to successfully defend a T20 World Cup title.

"We have a World Cup to win and that is what we have got to peak for," Cummins said.

"There is no point in burning out in these five games. We've been over in India for three (T20 international) games as well.

"You might see some people having a rest and in some different roles to make sure we give ourselves the best chance not only for the start of the tournament but the back end if we are there."

After playing a recent T20 series in India, Cummins said it was refreshing to be back on home soil on the Gold Coast.

"I feel like I have played ninety per cent of my T20 games in India on tiny grounds and pretty flat wickets so it was nice ... a bit of pace and bounce," he said.

"There are a few different problems (for batters) to think through and bigger square boundaries which was nice. I much prefer that."
