'Cumbersome' - Former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo slammed by ex Real Madrid manager

Former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo has been slammed by Fabio Capello, as the ex-England manager claimed the 37-year-old was "presumptuous" in his pursuit of finding a new club.

Ronaldo's departure from Old Trafford was inevitable after the Portugal international criticised Erik ten Hag, the current young generation of players, the owners and former teammates such as Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney. It was a scathing critique of the club and sent shockwaves around the footballing world.

The signs of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's discontent had been building for some time, with Ronaldo even looking to leave United in the summer in his bid to play Champions League football. A deal never materialised and the former United man now finds himself without a club as the world waits to see what the next step of his career looks like.

A handful of teams have been tipped to sign Ronaldo, as the veteran finds himself linked with possible moves to Saudi Arabia, the MLS or even a return to his home nation of Portugal. Regardless of where he decides to go next, the whole world will be watching with baited breath such is his stature in the game.

Yet Capello has now taken aim at Ronaldo for what he sees as a "presumptuous" attitude in his attempt to find another team, labelling the forward as "a bit cumbersome".

Capello told Corriere della Sera (via GOAL ): "He [Ronaldo] asked for it. And for what he has done in his career, he doesn't do himself honour.

"The player is not discussed, but in the moment was presumptuous, he went around offering himself without finding anyone who believed him. He has become a bit cumbersome for a team."
