Oliver Glasner has revealed Jean-Philippe Mateta will not play for Crystal Palace against Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Mateta is reportedly the subject of an offer from Serie A giants AC Milan, while he has also been linked with a move to Aston Villa and Forest.

According to reports, Milan have made an offer to sign the Frenchman initially on loan for the remainder of the season and then pay £35million in the summer for a permanent transfer.

Standard Sport reported in December that Mateta had no plans to sign a new contract with Palace, with the French international keen to play Champions League football.

Despite this and speculation surrounding his future, Mateta has continued to be selected by Palace as he started the last three Premier League games against Aston Villa, Sunderland and Chelsea.

However, when asked for an update on Mateta’s future, Glasner has said that the 28-year-old will not play against Forest.

"It's nothing to do with the transfers, he is just not in the right place and doesn't feel in the right place to play,” the Palace boss told reporters on Friday.

"We have to protect the team and protect him, he will not travel with us to Nottingham."

Jorgen Strand Larsen, meanwhile, will be in the Wolves squad for their game against Bournemouth despite being identified as a potential replacement for Mateta at Selhurst Park.

Wolves boss Rob Edwards said: "It's pretty clear, he has trained and will be part of the squad tomorrow. That is as much as I can say on it at the moment."
