People are giving the nightmare of rising costs a wide berth – by booking all-inclusive cruises.
The shocking rise in bills means it costs not that much more to go on a lengthy ship holiday than stay at home.
By January, the combined cost of energy, food and petrol for a household is predicted to be more than £30 a day.
A single person could book a place on a cruise at just £19 more per day – with the bonus of plenty of company, a change of scenery plus sun and soaring temperatures.
Steve Williams, director of sales at MSC Cruises, said: “We’ve put on a 21-night Canaries cruise for January. It went on sale this week and agents are citing energy bills as the reason for amazing interest it has attracted.”
You pay £1,028 per person to leave Southampton on January 6 for a tour to the Canary Islands, taking in Le Harve, Lisbon and Casablanca.
Rather than turning on the oven to heat pricey supermarket grub, you can tuck in at any of 12 restaurants.
Instead of running a bath, you can take a dip in one of five swimming pools.
David Segel, from cruise firm West End Travel, added: “When you’re on a ship and having a good holiday, you’re not turning on your lights or gas or heating.”
