Moscow military officials are showing off their Black Sea fleet’s cruise missiles as they carry out attacks on Ukrainian targets.
Zenger News obtained the footage showing a missile strike from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) earlier today (Tuesday, April 12th).
Kremlin officials said Russian troops carried out successful strikes on “designated ground targets” with high-precision Kalibr cruise missiles.
The Russian MoD said the volley of cruise missiles was launched from a vessel in the Black Sea at “military infrastructure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine”.
In the footage, the missiles can be seen as they are fired into the night sky. The video does not, however, show the missiles hitting their intended targets.
Elsewhere, the Russian MoD claimed to have destroyed an ammunition depot and a secure hangar with Ukrainian aircraft at the Starokostiantyniv Air Base, as well as an ammunition depot near Gavrilovka, in the Kyiv region.
The Ministry also said that the Russian Aerospace Forces hit 32 Ukrainian military targets, including a Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile system near Novomikhailovka, one radar to guide S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems near Zolotarevka, as well as a command post and 18 areas with a concentration of Ukrainian military equipment.
Meanwhile, the Russian Air Force claimed to have shot down two Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles near Berdiansk and Melitopol.
Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated this week that the “special military operation” in Ukraine is “to help the people in Donbas”, adding that the Russian military’s goals are “absolutely understandable and noble”.
Russian troops invaded Ukraine on February 24th in what the Kremlin is calling a “special military operation”. Today marks the 48th day of the invasion.
Western officials believe Russia is now focusing its attention on eastern and southern Ukraine after withdrawing its troops from areas to the north of the capital, Kyiv, which is located in the north-central part of the country.
Ukraine’s military has warned that Russian forces are likely to try to capture the south-eastern city of Mariupol soon. Reports from the besieged port city of a potential chemical attack delivered by a Russian drone have recently emerged.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Defence Ministry chief Kyrylo Budanov has claimed that Russian security services are planning “acts of terror” in Russia to turn public opinion against Ukraine.
And the United Nations says that around 4.8 million of Ukraine’s 7.5 million children have been displaced since the start of the invasion.
