Cruinniú na nÓg to take place with dozens of events for children across Dublin

Cruinniú na nÓg will take place tomorrow, June 10, with multiple events across the city celebrating children's creativity.

A flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan to enable the creative potential of children and young people, Cruinniú na nÓg 2023 will have events for children of all ages and teens. There is a huge programme of free family fun events including everything from neighbourhood festivals to dance, theatre, art and music workshops, readings, film screenings and much more.

Meanwhile, Lord Mayor of Dublin Caroline Conroy is calling on children and young people of the capital to fire up their imaginations and "Give it a Go For Cruinniú na nÓg". She said: “Children and young people have such imaginations and natural gifts. This day is about them.

"Giving them the chance to unleash their creativity and try out something new. Hopefully lots of children and young people will enjoy this fantastic programme of free events happening right across the capital.”

Highlights from the jam-packed programme include:

‘The King of many Cloaks and Crowns’

Presented by Joanna Parkes and Dublin City Council Creative Hubs programme, this joyful early years (ages 2-4) drama workshop is about a King who loves spending time in his gorgeous garden surrounded by flowers, bees and butterflies. One day, he learns that other kings have wardrobes full of shiny cloaks and crowns so he buys himself a new cloak, and another, and another.

The workshop is for children with a parent, grandparent or caregiver. It will be at the Coolock Library from 10:30am (tickets on Eventbrite here) and 12:00pm (tickets on Eventbrite here).

Wild Neighbourhood

Presented by Grasshopper Events and DCU Arts and Culture, this mini arts festival is designed especially for families with young children (4-12yrs), celebrating the urban wildlife, nature and the ecosystem of DCU All Hallows campus in Drumcondra.

General public can also attend this event at DCU's All Hallows Campus, Drumcondra. The festival starts at 1pm and ends at 5pm. Tickets can be bought from Eventbrite here, however there are also individual workshops with tickets on a first come, first served basis at the event.

Unsung Youth

Presented by Familibase, Ballyfermot, this mini festival will take place in the Peoples Garden beside the Civic Centre in Ballyfermot. Young musicians from the area will take to the stage performing a range of musical styles.

The park will also host stalls for different youth services, food vendors and a drop in VR tent. Ballyfermot Youth Theatre in association with Youth Theatre Ireland will host taster workshops in youth theatre and present a short film showcase of films created by Ballyfermot Youth Theatre, and groups from the Ballyfermot Cherry Orchard area.

The event is for teens aged between 13 and 18 and will be between 1pm and 7pm. While the event in the park is free, the Ballyfermot Youth Theatre workshops require registration here.

In total, there are over 25 events happening in Dublin city tomorrow. There are also 30+ events happening in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, nearly 40 happening in Fingal and South Dublin also has more than 20 events.
