Cruel screen-sharing scam cost victim £48,000 - how to avoid making same mistake

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has urged people to make the proper checks before sharing their screen. The plea comes after one victim lost more than £48,000 in a screen-sharing scam.

Since then cases have surged with the City regulator warning allowing scammers access to your device can "change everything in an instant".

By allowing fraudsters to gain access to your PC they can access online banking and investment details. The FCA say criminals are taking advantage of a growing familiarity with requests for screen sharing as the coronavirus pandemic has increased people’s reliance on video conferencing and remote platforms to work and socialise.
