Bloober Team is trying to follow up its success in the horror genre with Cronos: The New Dawn. This comes as the Silent Hill 2 remake became an instant hit with the community.
The remake was able to sell a million copies in less than a week since release. Many fans raised concerns about whether or not Bloober Team was the right studio for the job. The concerns were raised ahead of the launch of the Silent Hill 2 remake.
Cronos: The New Dawn
The concerns were raised due to the studio's sometimes mixed reactions to its previous works. But with the Silent Hill 2 remake, Bloober Team proved itself as a competent development studio. The remake was able to meet the high standards of even critics.
Cronos: The New Dawn is the studio's original take on the survival horror genre. It features a sci-fi version of Poland during the 1980s. The game was revealed during the Xbox Partner Preview event held last week, according to Eurogamer.
Co-director Wojciech Piejko said the team was extremely satisfied with the work on the Silent Hill 2 remake. He said that they were able to drastically change the internet's opinion of the development company.
He added that he was thankful to the people who worked on the remake, knowing that it is no small feat to survive the barrage of criticisms online. Co-director Jacek Zieba noted that there is pressure on Cronos: The New Dawn to meet similar standards.
Success of the Silent Hill 2 Remake
Bloober Team admits that it is aware it has to "evolve" following the release of The Medium in 2021.
Zieba said that the psychological horror adventure title went on to have a Metascore of 71 on Metacritic. This became a turning point for the developers to try and make bigger and better games, IGN said.
He noted that after The Medium, it was clear to them that they needed to change how they operated on a fundamental level. They decided to end the chapter of the adventure games and focus on titles that focus on horror and fear.
Bloober Team describes Cronos: The New Dawn as a "twisted time travel story" that is set in a post-apocalyptic future. The game features third-person view and looks to have a lot of action based on the cinematic trailer.
The footage mainly included a lengthy scene where a character can be seen playing chess with a woman. They then wander into an apocalyptic landscape that features actual gameplay shots, albeit minimal, according to Engadget.
