The awards season in Hollywood has begun with good news for Latino filmmakers and actors, although not in a volume that truly recognizes the work and talent of the community. A prime example of this is the 2026 Critics Choice Awards nominations, in which Guillermo del Toro and Wagner Moura were recognized in several categories.
Sinners leads the list with 17 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Ryan Coogler, and Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan. One Battle After Another follows with 14 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, and Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and Benicio del Toro, respectively.
Netflix's Frankenstein and Focus Features' Hamnet each have 11 nominations and will also compete for the Best Picture award, along with Focus's Bugonia , Netflix's Jay Kelly and Train Dreams , A24's Marty Supreme , Neon's Sentimental Value and Universal's Wicked: For Good .
In the television category, Netflix's miniseries Adolescence leads with six nominations, followed by Nobody Wants This, also from Netflix, with five. Six other productions are tied with four nominations each: Peacock's All Her Fault , Netflix's The Diplomat and Death by Lightning , CBS's Ghosts , HBO Max's The Pitt and Hacks , and Apple TV's Severance.
Diego Luna, who was ignored by the Emmys this year for his portrayal of Cassian Andor, was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series.
On the other hand, two Latin American films entered the Best Foreign Film category: the Argentine Belén and the Brazilian The Secret Agent, as well as the Spanish Sirāt.
Netflix leads the list of networks and platforms with 31 Critics Choice nominations, four more than HBO Max.
