Cristiano Ronaldo urges Portugal fans to 'let all hell break loose' ahead of huge World Cup play off final

Cristiano Ronaldo has urged fans to make their presence count by making "all hell break loose" when Portugal host giant-killers North Macedonia at Estádio do Dragão on Tuesday.

The winners will secure a place in this year's World Cup finals in Qatar.

North Macedonia sent shockwaves throughout Europe last week when they eliminated Euro 2020 winners Italy from the running to secure a place in the 32-team tournament.

Now the Portugal hero has called on supporters to ensure they do not suffer the same fate as Roberto Mancini's side, especially as it could be the 37-year-old's last chance to make another international tournament appearance.

Ronaldo has featured at four World Cup finals - in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 – but has never lifted the trophy.

"I urge the fans: I want hell breaking loose at Dragao," said Ronaldo.

"I went to bed last night thinking that I want the stadium to shut down the music for our national anthem and let the fans sing it, a cappella, to show our passion, our strength and union around the objective of reaching the World Cup.

"If our fans show up the way they can, we will win on Tuesday."

Ronaldo did not get on the scoresheet in the semi-final victory over Turkey last week but played an important role as Fernando Santos’ side won 3-1 to progress to Tuesday’s final round of play-off action.

He added: “The team is very confident and we are excited for the final.

“This is the game of our lives."
