Football star Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez have taken to social media, saying they are grateful for their baby daughter and publicly sharing their first photo since their infant son's death.
The couple, who announced in October last year they were expecting twins, revealed on Instagram on Tuesday that the baby boy had died.
The girl survived.
The pair have not released further details about their son's death or their daughter's health but they said on social media that the newborn girl and Ms Rodriguez were now "home sweet home".
"Gio and our baby girl are finally together with us," the couple posted on their joint Instagram account.
"We want to thank everyone for all the kind words and gestures.
"Your support is very important and we all felt the love and respect that you have for our family.
"Now it's time to be grateful for the life that we've just welcomed into this world."
The post came after Liverpool and Manchester United fans stood together to pay tribute to Ronaldo during a Premier League match at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Manchester United striker missed the match.
Players from both sides walked onto the pitch wearing black armbands.
In the seventh minute of the game, supporters of both teams gave a standing ovation for Ronaldo, with Liverpool fans joining in on singing United's anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone.
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp described the emotional display as the "moment of the game".
"The whole stadium together showed pure class," he said, adding: "So many things they are much more important in life than football."
"Obviously, we really feel for Cristiano and his family."
Ronaldo was clearly touched by the show of support, writing that he and his family would "never forget this moment of respect and compassion".
He and Ms Rodriguez have another daughter together, while Ronaldo has three other children.
