Cristiano Ronaldo sent cheeky message by Ajax over new Manchester United celebration

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo was sent a cheeky message on social media by Ajax, after one of their youth team players copied the 37-year-old's recent celebration.

Ronaldo's famous 'siu' celebration has taken the world by storm, with players across the globe copying the Portuguese international's trademark move. So when the five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored his 700th career goal against Everton last month, many were surprised to see a different reaction entirely.

After latching on to Casemiro's perfectly weighted through ball and firing past Jordan Pickford with his left-foot, Ronaldo simply clasped his hands together over his chest and closed his eyes. It soon transpired that the celebration was actually a self-deprecating joke at his own expense.

Ronaldo's training routine includes plenty of rest, as his celebration at Goodison Park pointed to the position he usually occupies when sleeping on the way to away matches, travelling with the squad. The 'siu' jump and pose is already famous around the world, but it now seems his latest nap-based celebration has also caught the attention of others.

Ajax's young stars were in UEFA Youth League action against Rangers on Tuesday night, as 17-year-old David Kalokoh scored an impressive goal, shifting the ball quickly between the defenders before firing into the bottom-right corner. If the goal itself was enough to have made Ronaldo proud, the celebration would have done so even more.

Kalokoh calmly copied the United forward's Everton celebration, before being mobbed by his teammates. The Eredivisie club were then quick to send their own message to Ronaldo, as they took to Twitter saying: "Close enough, @Cristiano?".

Despite United taking Erik ten Hag, Antony and Lisandro Martinez from Ajax this summer, it is clear to see that there is no bad blood between the two clubs.
