Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal teammate Jose Fonte has hinted that there may be one reason in particular why the striker wants to leave Manchester United.
The superstar has told the club he wishes to leave this summer, following the club’s woeful season. Ronaldo enjoyed a solid individual campaign, finishing as United’s top scorer with 24 goals.
However, these efforts couldn’t be translated across the whole team as United finished with their worst ever Premier League record. It means they will be playing Europa League football next season.

As a result, a contract agreement has been triggered across the board at the club, which sees players’ wages reduced by 25 per cent. This is one reason why Ronaldo has been unsettled as well as the fact that United ’s transfer activity has been slow so far this summer.
The 37-year-old also doesn’t make much of the club’s chances to win a trophy next season, despite being in the Europa League. Fonte suggested that this may be the straw that has ultimately broken the camel’s back.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “The man loves Champions League, he really appreciates the Champions League and believes it’s the best competition in the world. He needs to perform to win his Ballon d’Or’s.
“He needs to be winning trophies to be competing for them trophies, them Ballon d’Or’s. He wants to win, he’s a serial winner as everyone knows.
"So he might be looking at the squad thinking am I going to be able to win some titles, some trophies this year? Maybe he doesn’t believe it, I don’t know, only he can say.”
