Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Manchester United training

Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Manchester United training.

Ronaldo was granted compassionate leave and missed the 4-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night following the tragic death of his baby boy. The 37-year-old was driven into United's Carrington training complex this morning and it is understood took part in the full session.

Ronaldo announced in October his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, was expecting twins. Their baby girl was born safely.

In a statement, Ronaldo wrote: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away,” the Manchester United striker wrote in a post also signed by his partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

“It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel."

“Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness," he wrote on the social media post.

“We are all devastated at this loss,” the post added, “and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”

Liverpool and United fans joined forces at Anfield on Tuesday night to show love and support to Ronaldo and his family with a minute's applause in the seventh minute of the game.
