Cristiano Ronaldo 'offered' surprise Manchester United escape route and more transfer rumours

Fiorentina are willing to offer Cristiano Ronaldo an exit route from Old Trafford as speculation over his future with Manchester United continues to mount - according to reports.

Ronaldo, 37, expressed a desire to leave United this summer. However, there were no serious offers for him at that stage and the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was forced to stay put 12 months after a sensational return to the place where it all began for him on a global scale.

As the dust continues to settle on *that* bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, which aired last week, United are still contemplating what to do and the player could be sacked or sued. Either way, it seems as though Ronaldo has played his last game for the Premier League giants.

But what is next for his glittering career? After spearheading Portugal's charge for World Cup glory, Ronaldo will be able to find a new club in January as Italian publication Calcio Mercato underline interest from Fiorentina with them emerging as 'surprise' candidates for his ever-famous signature.

Ronaldo spent three seasons in Serie A previously - at Juventus - when he left Real Madrid in 2018.

Elsewhere, reports from German outlet Sport 1 suggest that Bayern Munich are not prepared to sell United 'target' Benjamin Pavard during the January transfer window. Pavard, 26, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford while he has, also, recently claimed that he would be open to a new challenge.

United signed five players on permanent deals after appointing Erik ten Hag as their new manager this summer as Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony all put pen-to-paper. They were followed up by on-loan Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

But the club did not bring in competition for Diogo Dalot and he has, largely, been unchallenged for his position at right-back this season. Pavard has 18 months left to run on his contract with the Bundesliga giants.
