Cristiano Ronaldo was an unused substitute in Manchester United's derby day hammering as he was snubbed by Erik ten Hag for the first time this season.
The Portuguese star was looking to quit Old Trafford in the summer but failed to secure a move away and has had to remain under the new regime. Ten Hag has shown he's prepared to make difficult decisions, even if they're not popular, and has only handed Ronaldo one start.
That came in the 4-0 mauling at Brentford and the 37-year-old has had to accept a squad role for the first time in his historic career. He's appeared from the bench in five of the six games prior to the trip to Manchester City. He again began on the bench at the Etihad, but failed to make it onto the pitch.
