Cristiano Ronaldo chasing reunion with Man Utd outcast who sparked training brawl

Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr are hopeful of reuniting Cristiano Ronaldo with his former Manchester United team-mate Alex Telles.

Telles was involved in a training ground bust-up with team-mate Hannibal Mejbri last May, just before United boss Erik ten Hag assumed the Old Trafford hot seat. The in-house fall-out came in the aftermath of United's humiliating 4-0 defeat away at Brighton at the tail-end of last term when morale was at its lowest under interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

Even though Ten Hag was not in the dugout at that point, he was informed of the situation and how Rangnick was so displeased with the incident that he ended that particular training session prematurely.

Telles moved to Sevilla on a season-long loan deal but the Spanish club will not look to sign the player permanently this summer. United will look to find another willing buyer for the Brazilian, who joined from Porto in 2020.

Sevilla – unless they win the Europa League, the competition which they knocked United out of at the quarter final stage – appear likely to miss out on European football next season and would therefore miss out on a financial windfall, meaning they cannot afford Telles. Argentine full-back Marcos Acuna is the Andalusian side’s first choice left-back.

A report in Diario AS now claims that Telles could be reunited with Ronaldo at Al-Nassr. The Saudi Arabian club are keen on signing the Brazilian this summer as they need to strengthen in the position and would be one of the clubs who would have no issue affording the costs involved to land the full-back.

Telles is expected to be among the clearout of defenders at Old Trafford this summer. United will look to move him on in a permanent deal while they will also seek departures for Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe.

Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof are United’s main central defensive options while Luke Shaw has played in that position at times with Tyrell Malacia providing competition at left-back. Diogo Dalot has also been utilised on the left as Aaron Wan-Bissaka enjoys a run of games at right-back.

It is expected to be a busy summer of activity at United. All three goalkeepers (David de Gea, Tom Heaton and Jack Butland) are out of contract while the futures of Scott McTominay, Fred and Anthony Martial are all under scrutiny – with several signings planned by the club.
