Cristian Stellini issues fresh update on Bryan Gil's Tottenham future ahead of transfer deadline

Tottenham assistant head coach Cristian Stellini believes Bryan Gil will remain at Spurs beyond the end of the January transfer window. Having finished the 2021/22 campaign out on loan with Valencia, the winger was expected to depart again in the summer with regular opportunities not coming his way in north London.

However, he stayed with the club unable to bring in another attacker in the final few days of the transfer window. Linked with a January exit once again, Gil has been given opportunities in the first team of late and has caught the eye as a result, most notably in Spurs' 4-0 win at Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening.

Registering an assist and having a hand in the team's first and third goals, Spurs fans are now desperate to see more of the exciting player in action. Now that the January transfer window is open for business, Stellini has delivered a fresh update on what the future holds for the Spain Under-21 star.

"I think so, yeah," said the Italian when asked by football.london if Gil will remain at the club this month. "He could and he's playing very well. We're so happy because he's another player we worked a lot with.

"He has a great, great, great improvement, because he trains every day 110%. He puts in all his energy every day and this is why he deserved to play a good match to be important in that match, with an assist, and the last pass before an assist. It was a great match for him."

Gil will be expected to start for Tottenham on Saturday afternoon when the Lilywhites host Portsmouth in the third round of the FA Cup. Tottenham are short on attacking players at present, thus meaning Antonio Conte and his coaching team have a decision to make over whether or not Harry Kane starts against the League One outfit.

"Could be an opportunity to give him a rest but we don't have many players and the choice is compulsory," he explained. "So we have to choose the players we have in the front line. We have three strikers at the moment and we'll use them. It's an important match in an important cup and if you want to respect it you use the players in their positions. At the moment we have those three."
