Crisis-hit Morton want to appoint David Moyes Jr as the club’s new Technical Director.
The troubled Championship club had just 13 players taking part in training on Tuesday, with manager Ian Murray expressing concerns that the Greenock side may be forced to forfeit games due to a lack of fit players.
Son of Everton manager David, Moyes Jr is a former agent and scout with West Ham and has now been identified by prospective Dutch partners Estrella Football Group as the man to help strengthen the squad before the transfer deadline on September 3.
Morton are winless since March 28 and in need of immediate reinforcements. Moyes’ role would be paid for by external cash and he has already carried out an assessment of the current football operation with a view to bringing in two experienced Championship players as soon as the Estrella deal is confirmed.

The club’s problems have been exacerbated by a perilous financial position: Estrella were informed earlier this week that main sponsors Dalrada have failed to make payments worth more than £320,000, creating a worrying black hole in the budget.
After reaching agreement on a £750,000 investment in return for a 35% minority stake and two seats on the board, the Dutch group have decided against pulling the plug on the deal and remain committed to adding Morton to a horizontal multi-club ownership group already featuring Portuguese fourth division side Cascais and Italian Serie C team Aurora Pro Patria.
In a letter to the board of club owners Morton Club Together, however, CEO Xander Czaikowski has expressed concerns over a material change to the club’s financial position and hopes of survival in the Championship and has now proposed a revised investment worth the lower sum of £600,000.
Members of majority community-based owners Morton Club Together will have the final say on the revised proposal - and the appointment of Moyes Jr - in a vote this week.
