Cringiest celebrity April Fools' jokes - CBB announcement to Love Island uni module

April Fools' Day is never anyone's favourite holiday.

Complete with awkward 'announcements' and cringey seen-it-all-before jokes, most people can't wait for the clock to strike midday so that they can get on with their lives.

Unsurprisingly, celebrities are keen to get involved in all the action and often enjoy playing a cheeky joke or two on their social media accounts.

2023 is no different and fans have been treated to a selection of tongue-in-cheek news stories, fake TV deals and one or two national treasures claiming they're the next James Bond.

We've rounded up a selection of this year's most eye-wincing celebrity jokes...

Love Island degree

Winner of the ninth series of hit ITV show, Kai Fagan tried to tease his academic fans by claiming to teach a module on Love Island.

The influencer took to his Instagram stories to share a fake news story from the Sheffield Tab saying he "can't wait".

The article was headlined: "Love Island winner Kai returning to Sheffield Hallam to teach an actual Love Island module."

Before heading into the villa, Kai was a science and PE teacher as well as a semi-professional rugby player.

He also holds three degrees from three different universities including Sheffield Hallam, so maybe there could be truth to his April Fool's joke in the future.

Big Brother return

Gemma Collins pretended she was going back into the Big Brother house (Instagram)

Much loved Essex girl Gemma Collins went all out for her prank, with a full trailer announcing her return to the Celebrity Big Brother house.

The GC tricked her fans with a hilarious montage video to the classic Big Brother soundtrack.

She captioned her post: "So excited to tell you I’m the first House mate confirmed for the new celebrity big brother."

Her fans quickly realised the date as they took to the comments to say: "Gemma don’t play with our emotions like that."

Next James Bond

Ant and Dec claimed they were the next James Bond (Twitter)

Cheeky duo Ant and Dec are known for playing pranks on fellow celebrities, but now it was our turn to be tricked.

On their shared Twitter account, the national treasures posted a series of black and white photos and fake news story about them joining the James Bond franchise.

They said: "Well this is quite something…! It’s a total dream to be in discussions about joining an iconic British franchise."

The pair didn't fool anyone for long as they soon tweeted: "April Fools! To be fair, we are actually having talks about being in the next Bond movie…. but only with each other! Did we get you?"

Tying the knot?

Love Island star Malin Andersson tired to play a prank on her followers by saying she was getting married.

Taking to her Instagram stories, the 2016 contestant wrote: "Can't believe today is the day I get married... feeling so emotional."

The mental health advocate, who broke up with her daughter Xaya's dad Jared just weeks after giving birth, very quickly came clean about her fake news.

Malin posted a snap of her and her daughter captioned: "Happy April fools."

Prince Harry lookalikes

A theatre website claimed two celebrity Prince Harry's lookalikes will feature in a new solo musical based on his book Spare.

WhatsOnStage joked Ed Sheeran will take on the leading role, saying: "Ginger royalty man. It was the perfect fit."

The singer's understudy will be Rupert Grint.

Numbers in the musical are said to include "The Cold Never Bothered My Todger Anyway", "The Dogbowl Song", "(Not) The Best Man", "I'll Make A Man Out Of You (Behind A Very Busy Pub)" and "Camilla's Lament".

It finished off the piece by writing: "There were unconfirmed rumours that Spare had originally been set to run at the Prince of Wales Theatre, but there seems to have been some sort of falling out, and the production was forced to relocate."
