Glamorgan wicketkeeper Chris Cooke claims he only discovered his omission from Birmingham Phoenix's squad for the second season of The Hundred on Twitter.
Sides released their retained lists on Tuesday, with the men's squads allowed to keep 10 players who either featured in the inaugural edition of the tournament or had to withdraw due to injury or travel restrictions.
Stars not retained will enter the draft on March 30.
Cooke played for the Phoenix in last year's competition, but was not part of the 10-strong list of players they announced on Tuesday.
In response to a tweet from Sky Sports announcing the retained players, Cooke posted: "Nice to find out via Twitter." He accompanied the tweet with three laughing emojis and a thumbs up.
One reply to his tweet read: "This is bull****! @thehundred @ECB_cricket - easy to talk the talk on player welfare but walking the walk clearly not a priority. Hope the @PCA are having a word pal - enjoy the winter x."
Australia T20 World Cup winners Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis are among the stars retained, having both missed last year's competition due to travel restrictions.
They will feature for the London Spirit and Southern Brave respectively.
Jofra Archer, who missed the inaugural tournament though injury, will also return to the Brave.
Teams can include up to three overseas stars and will feature at least one Test-contracted England player.
All sides are looking for at least one overseas player in the draft, with the Welsh Fire looking for three having released each of their original overseas signings.
Domestic players not retained include Tom Banton and Laurie Evans despite their exploits in other franchise leagues around the world.
