- India has beaten New Zealand by 4 wickets after eclipsing the Black Caps’ 180-run total at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
- New Zealand’s respectable total was mostly made up of runs by Glenn Phillips (70) and emerging talent Bevon Jacobs (58), who has a chance to secure his position in the Black Caps’ batting order.
- But India’s batters responded, with Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy seeing out the innings not out for 51 and 26 runs, respectively.
- Spinner Mitchell Santner had the best of the bowling for the Black Caps, felling four wickets, but it was not enough to see off a strong India team.
- During the first T20I, India’s batters also came to the rescue, guiding the side past a 226-run target to establish their first win in what is now a 2-0 lead in the five-test series.
